Connecting Customers to Trucking Companies

News Piece | 15/01/2019

Cape Town-based Linebooker connects customers to logistics companies that transport goods and products around South Africa.

Operating nationally, Linebooker is shaking up SA’s road freight sector through an online bidding platform, which allows customers to find trucking companies and transport their goods to locations around the country. The platform links bulk business transport customers and trucking companies, to offer transparent pricing, as well as end-to-end delivery facilitation services.

Through Linebooker, customers have access to a virtual fleet of over 4 500 transporters, including Unitrans, Van Der Vyver Transport, Cooline Logistics, Coldsure Distribution Services and Anderson Transport.

Linebooker provides transparency both for the transport owner and the customer through their online bidding platform, which reduces any opportunity for profiteering.

The company has saved customers an average of 12% since beginning operations. All of the company’s transporters are pre-approved and vetted for requirements such as goods-in-transit insurance. Moreover, Linebooker’s transport controllers look after administrative elements associated with deliveries such as securing proof-of-delivery documentation and invoicing.

Transporters, on the other hand, benefit through access to more customers, a single debtor, and efficiencies through improved ‘lane balancing’ (deliveries loaded in two directions).

“The company has seen extremely happy transporters, with one earning R900 000 in additional revenue over ten months from lane balancing achieved on the platform,” as reported by Fin24.

Customers include Shoprite, Unilever, Ocean Basket and Lucky Star.
